Hmmm...
“On the contrary, art consists of inventing and not copying...”

His name was Muggle, but he wil always be “Beep” to me.  He was just a kitten.  Undersized… heck even “undercooked” you may say.  But he was a little buddy of mine.  Although he was technically my brother-in-law’s kitten, he spent quite a bit of time at our house.  Due to massive kidney failure he was put to sleep this evening.  He was just 17 weeks old.  I”m going to miss you, little buddy.

So close to done now.

So very nearly done.  Just some small details to finish out and sand down a few rougher areas.  I am still debating whether or not to give him a coat of paint to make him ore solid in color and easier to see.

First shots of the sword.Look ma, one hand!

So here it is, continuing right along.  For my first full sculpt, I am pretty pleased with it.  You can’t tell from the pics but the head is looking very solid.  The variations in the putty come from multiple “firings” in the putty oven.

Since the head was a little disproportional to the body, I am beefing up the chest, arms and shoulders, as well as the trapezius (sp?).  Other additions include the toe and heel caps, the sword, the left hand, extending the waistcloak’s collar and adding folds to it.

He has a head now. Wat about hands and weapons?

Inspired by Kev White\'s Putty Oven, I made my own.Very early in the head sculpt here, but you can already see the grin.

So here is the early sculpt of the head and my putty oven.  The oven was inspired by Kev White’s putty over over at hasslefree.

The head is very early in its construction, but you can see the beginnings of the wry grin everyone liked so much.  This is my first full head sculpt.  I have done eyes, noses, chins and mouths, just never all at the same time.

The First rendition of the axe was horrid.  It was so bad I didn’t even take pictures.  Oh well, trial and error.  The new version is much better so far.  Sadly I have run out of super glue and will not be able to continue that mini project until tomorrow.

Anyone know what to do with loads of dried excess putty?

5 Minute concept sketchSo I am inspired to try scultping again today. Looking at Kev White’s project table was a bad idea I suppose.
So here is the quandry, what to sculpt? I went through my sketchbooks and what do you know? Nothing. So I sit and doodle a bit. I end up with something inspired by the AoW Barbarian I did for TTIV. Somewhat static with lots of character. I will try and get a scan of the sketch up soon.
Also I made a putty oven (yay extra desk lamp and aluminum foil!) so we will see how that goes.
Having slopped some apoxie sculpt on a basic armature and set it in the oven, I am anxiously awaiting the dried product so I can begin real sculpting. Being an art major I did take the required sculpting classes, but was never able to get into it. However, having worked briefly as a comic illustrator I do have a fair knowledge of anatomy, clothing folds, etc. The trick will be to translate it into 3D. Currently the now-baking putty is about 38mm in height, and i suspect when he has a head it will be about 40-45mm. So rather than do this at CMON, I am going to do the WIP here, where we are a little closer than the somewhat massive CMON numbers.More refined sketch of the Noble WarriorEarly stage green

And you see I have come up with a more refined sketch and the start of the green.

Well, another New Year’s resolution comes to pass.  As of yesterday I entered three digits territory over at CMON.

Cool, huh?  Well, its cool to me.

I didn\'t expect this one to place He\'s a bad bad man.Somedays you should just stay in bed.Had this had a better background in the competition (it was red) it may have placed.

So, Total testosterone over at Wyrd is done, and I have to admit I am actually a little disappointed.  Only one of my four entries won anything.  My Wyrd entry for Deadly Duel won second place in its category.  I am somewhat surprised that my barbarian hero did not place.  I am loathe to say that first place in both categories, no matter how well painted, had only one photo each rather than a montage as per the norm.  perhaps a rule needs to be added about needing more than one image.  Also I felt the barbarian would have a shot at best base… not even close.  Irritating that.

I still have tons for sale over on eBay, but the stars of the show are on the For Sale page.
Over at CMON, Alastriel is currently garnering a

So I couldn’t sleep last night.  Thus, I took this mini, which has been sitting on my shelf, primed, for months.  I decided to see what I could do in one night.  Almost all of it was done by the time I actually got to bed.  I did some further highlights this morning and the blood on the pokey-outey-intestine thingy.

Dwarf Lord with Great Weapon is available for sale on eBay.  I am very proud of this mini, and hope it will go to a good home.

So, my regular work is done for a couple months, and since my last seasonal time killer refused to take their mistake and fix it, I am searching for something new.  In the meantime, this week upcoming will be dedicated to commissions and a couple ebay-bound minis.  I could certainly use some more commissions, so if you are one of the rare readers of this please let your firends know that I am taking new clients.  I have one nearly done and two that are pending (I gotta get the minis from him).  Those two I am really looking forward to: Tigurius and Marneus Calgar.

Kelly at Groovy Gecko’s has agreed to let me put some cards in the store so I can maybe drum up some local business.

Right.  So, I have a new addiction that still keeps me in the realm of tiny toy soldiers.  In this case literally: Flames of War.  Let me tell you, those guys are small!  15mm minis with a fair amount of detail.  I say “fair” becuase they don’t really have all that much detail when compared to 28mm+ (Games Workshop, Wyrd, etc).  I am playing the British, and to be more specific, a British Rifle Company.  Throwing in Commandos, Indian Ghurkhas (sp?), and artillery and anti-tank guns, its a bit more than that.  This is the first tabletop game that I truly have gotten into with a vengeance.  I play 40k and have a couple WFB armies, but this games rocks.  In the last week I have played 5 games.  In those games, I am technically 4-1, though to be perfectly honest and not do the “points” thing, I am 2-1-2.  If you play, drop me a line.
